Wildcats Last 17 Innings with Lynx

GAME ONE – Lesley 18, Bay Path 16 (10 innings) http://athletics.baypath.edu/sports/sball/2016-17/boxscores/20170408_otnd.xml

LONGMEADOW, Mass.-The first game was an absolute slugfest, as Lesley claimed an 18-16 victory in 10 innings as the teams collected 24 hits apiece. Every player in both starting lineups contributed to the fireworks.

For Bay Path, every starter hit safely or scored a run. Lauren Vallee (Bristol, Conn.) led the way with five hits including two home runs, a pair of doubles and five RBI.  Keyla Oliveras (Springfield, Mass.) also collected five hits, a double, two stolen bases and two RBI.

Krystal Fredette (Orange, Mass.) notched three hits with a triple and three RBI, Jailinne Ruiz (Hadley, Mass.) added two hits and four RBI, and Katrina Peck (Newington, Conn.) delivered three hits.

Madison Goodhart (Pawtucket, R.I.) and Lilly West (Goshen, Mass.) each posted two hits and an RBI, while Marissa Sarna-McCarthy (Westhampton, Mass.) turned in one hit and Gretchen Hale (Naugatuck, Conn.) added two runs scored.

Every Lesley starter recorded multiple hits, led by Mekenzi Golden (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) and Theresa Pereira (Hopedale, Mass.) with four hits apiece to go with three RBI and two RBI, respectively.

Ally Murphy (Raynham, Mass.) chipped in three hits and four RBI, while Sarah Bushman (Aurora, Colo.) posted three hits and two RBI.

Abby Henderson (Rochester, N.H.) slugged a home run and joined Carlyn Barker (Temecula, Calif.) with two hits and three RBI, while Alyson Nisbet (Clovis, Calif.), Courtney Goggin (Cheshire, Conn.) and Jordan Raab (Rochester, N.H.) each had two hits.

The teams exchanged the lead in each of the first three innings as Lesley (4-11, 3-0 NECC) jumped out to a 5-4 lead.  Neither team scored in the fourth inning, but Bay Path (6-10, 2-3 NECC) plated four runs in the home fifth to claim an 8-5 advantage.

A three-spot for Lesley in the sixth knotted the game at 8-8, before each team added a run in the seventh to send the contest into extra innings tied at 9-9.

Unbelievably, each team scored twice in the eighth and four times in the ninth to tie the game at 15-15.  Three runs in the top of the 10th put the Lynx ahead, 18-15, but the Wildcats could only muster one tally in their final at bat to end the scoring at 18-16.

GAME TWO – Lesley 5, Bay Path 2 http://athletics.baypath.edu/sports/sball/2016-17/boxscores/20170408_jn2e.xml

Lesley (5-11, 4-0 NECC) completed the doubleheader sweep with a 5-2 victory, despite Bay Path (6-1, 2-4 NECC) outhitting the visitors 7-6 in the nightcap.

The Wildcats scored first as West singled home Vallee with two outs in the bottom of the first inning.

In the top of the second, Lesley knotted the score at 1-1 as Pereira drove in Murphy on a two-out infield single.

Bay Path scored its final run of the day as Olvieras singled in Alexis Marie Ellsey (Methuen, Mass) with two outs in the home second to take a 2-1 lead

Lesley took the lead for good in third inning, plating a pair on a RBI-groundout by Raab and a run-scoring single by Nisbet that put the Lynx on top 3-2.

A single run in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Golden, and one run in fifth inning on a single by Nisbet closed out the scoring with the Lynx on top 5-2.
