Wildcats Clip Eagles Wings Outscoring them by Twenty-Four Runs

LONGMEADOW, Mass.-  Bay Path University took both games in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) softball double header today against Daniel Webster College. The Wildcats won the opener 9-2 and shut down the Eagles 17-0 in five innings during the nightcap.  Bay Path is now 15-15 overall and 7-7 in conference play, while Daniel Webster falls to 5-18 on the season and 1-13 in conference play.

Sophomore hurler Madison Goodhart (Pawtucket, R.I.) tossed a complete game allowing only two runs on seven hits. She struck-out six and walked two batters. Offensively, Goodhart also went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.  Junior shortstop Lauren Vallee (Bristol, Conn.) finished with three hits, three RBI and two runs.

Two other Wildcats finished with multiple hits. Sophomore catcher Katrina Peck (Newington, Conn.) went 2-for-3 with one run, while sophomore outfielder Marissa Sarna –McCarthy (Westhampton, Mass.) also went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

The Eagles sophomore outfielder Megan Lewis-Taylor (Magnolia, Del.) led her team going 2-for-3 with one run.  Fellow sophomore outfielder Danica Nadeau (Monmouth, Maine) plated the two runs on a deep shot to left field in the top of the fifth.

Sophomore pitcher Amber Roberts (Berlin, N.H.) suffered both losses on the day. Roberts tossed ten innings fanning four batters for the day. She gave up 38 hits allowing 26 runs.

Bay Path's freshman pitcher Felicia Gaillardetz (Londonderry, N.H.) earned the shut-out in the second game leading the way for the Wildcats. She fanned eight batters allowing only two hits;  also going a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate adding 1 run and 1 RBI.  Fellow freshman and catcher Lilly West (Goshen, Mass.) also went 4-for-4 with 4 runs and one RBI. Senior infielder Gretchen Hale (Naugatuck, Conn.) also finished 4-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Vallee and freshman infielder Taylor Feraco (Oxford, Mass.) each tallied three hits. Feraco had a stellar five RBI and added two runs.

Daniel Webster will travel to Newbury on Saturday, April 29th for a noon game. Bay Path will host Wheelock on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. honoring their seniors after the double header.
