Bay Path Prevailed in the Battle of the Cats Sweeping Wheelock on Senior Day

Maroon Wildcats Honored their Two Departing Seniors Fredette and Hale

LONGMEADOW, Mass.-  Junior shortstop Lauren Vallee (Bristol, Conn)led her team in their finale home softball double header action against the Wildcats of Wheelock College with a grand slam in the opener of the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) match up. Bay Path played a shortened five inning game to the run rule winning 12-1 and after senior day festivities came out and took the nightcap 9-2. The Maroon Wildcats honored its two graduating seniors Gretchen Hale (Naugatuck, Conn.) and Krystal Fredette (Orange, Mass.).

Bay Path is now 19-15 overall and 9-7 in conference play, while Wheelock falls to 1-31 on the season and 1-15 in conference play.

Bay Path's freshman pitcher Felicia Gaillardetz (Londonderry, N.H.) tossed the first game allowing only one run on five hits. She struck out four and walked one batter.  Senior pitcher Maggie Doyle (Kingston, Mass.) suffered the loss giving up 12 runs, only four earned, on 12 hits; while fanning one and walking three for the game.

Sophomore Samantha Leahon (Castleton, N.Y.) scored the lone run for the blue and gold Wildcats in the top of the first. Bay Path came back to score eight runs in the bottom of the first taking advantage of some Wheelock errors including Vallee's grand slam.  Bay Path would score two more runs in the third and the fourth to clinch the victory.

Vallee went three-for-four  with five RBI and two runs. Fredette also had a great day at the plate going three -for-three with two runs. Sophomore catcher/infielder Katrina Peck (Newington, Conn.) finished 2-for-2 with one run.

Sophomore hurler Madison Goodhart (Pawtucket, R.I.) gave a stellar performance in the circle and at the plate. She tossed the seven innings facing 28 batters for the victory. Goodhart gave up only five hits on two runs, neither of which were earned.  At bat, she led her team with three hits and had two RBI.

Four other maroon Wildcats finished with two hits including catcher/infielder Lilly West (Goshen, Mass) who led with three RBI.

Doyle led her team in the nightcap going two-for-three with one RBI. Freshman pitcher Hanna Gootee (Hampton, N.H.) suffered the loss giving up nine runs on fourteen hits. She fanned three and walked three for the game.

Tomorrow is the final day of regular season play for both teams concluding NECC play Wheelock will host Mitchell at noon, while Bay Path travels to Becker for an 11:00 a.m. start.
