Bay Path Falls to Local NECC Rivals Elms 74-53

 

HOLYOKE, Mass. – The Wildcats of Bay Path fell 74-53 to cross-town New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) rivals the Blazers of Elms College in NCAA Division III women's basketball action tonight at HCC's Bartley Center. Coming off the bench for the Wildcats, senior forward Paige Marshall (New Britain, Conn.) led her team with a double double finishing with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Topping all players was freshman center Angelica Peguero-Flores (Springfield, Mass.) with 22 points, 13 boards, five steals and an amazing seven blocks for the Blazers.

 

Three other Blazers' managed to score in the double figures. Senior guard Mackenzie LaRochelle (Chicopee, Mass.) chipped in 14 points, five assists and five rebounds. Freshman guard Regina LeBlanc (Enfield, Conn.) wasn't far behind putting up 13 buckets and pulling down seven boards. Finally, sophomore guard Molly Moulton (North Adams, Mass.) added 11 points.

 

Freshman guard Emmeline Bronson (Shelton, Conn.) wasn't far behind Marshall scoring 12 points and chipping in five rebounds. Freshman center Kaleigh Hart (Wethersfield, Conn.) played a tough game with seven points, seven rebounds, four blocks and two assists. Freshman guard Shameria Armstead (Brenham, Tex.) added nine points and six rebounds.

 

Bay Path shot 31.3% (21-of-67) from the field, while Elms fared slightly better, shooting 38.30% (30-of-79).  Elms out hustled Bay Path after turnovers (7-to-19) scoring 18 of their points after steals and 12 points on fast breaks, while Bay Path only scored four points off of turnovers and on bucket after a fast break.

Bay Path (0-21 overall, 0-14 NECC) will travel to Southern Vermont on Thursday, February 15th at 7:00 p.m., while Elms (9-14, 8-7) hosts non-conference St. Joseph in a make-up game Thursday, February 15th at 7:00 p.m.
