Bay Path announces Emily Niemann as new Head Women's Basketball Coach

Bay Path University is pleased to announce the hiring of Emily Niemann as the 10th head coach to lead the "Wildcats" basketball program. Coach Niemann earned a Bachelor's of Arts in Systems of Difference, University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 2008, & her Master's of Exercise Science, Emphasis on Inclusion in Athletics and Coaching, Smith College in 2010. Coach Niemann is also conducts diversity and inclusion research and facilitates inclusion trainings in higher education settings, in particular, NCAA Athletic Departments. Coach Niemann's approach to leadership will be based on collaboration and communication with a clear priority of building a positive team culture with a deep sense of belonging for all student athletes.

Coach Niemann comes to Bay Path after a successful two-year stint in 2018-2019 as head coach of the girls program at Springfield Renaissance School leading them to back to back League Championships. In addition to over ten years of experience in player development and 3 years of being a strength and conditioning coach with her NSCA CSCS. "Bay Path University is excited to have Coach Niemann come on board and lead the women's basketball team back to being a competitive NCAA DIII program" said Director of Athletics, Steve Smith.

Niemann is also program founder of Keys to The Gym a project that teaches athletes and coaches leadership skills and the game of basketball, 2011-2019 focusing on female and male High School Student-Athletes & Coaches.

Coach Niemann was also a member of the 2005 NCAA Division I Baylor University National Championship team who defeated Michigan State 84-62.

Freshman Emily Niemann ranked No. 7 in NCAA Division I and No. 2 in the Big 12 in three-point shooting at 43.9 percent...Only freshman among the nation's top 30 in 3-point shooting...Averaged 10.1 points a game she was also selected to the 2005 Final Four Tournament team. In high school, her team won three State Championship in the Texas and she was named Texas' Player of the Year in 2003.

Niemann adds; "I am thrilled to be joining Bay Path University Athletics! Bay Path shares and supports my values in as coach in developing players on and off the court and creating a culture that positive and inclusive for all student athletes. We are going to work hard and treat people well. I am going to do everything in my power to ensure our student athletes have a great experience being a part of this team so they can grow as players and as people and build strong relationships with their teammates."

On the court, we are going to set a tone of playing with intensity and making smart decisions by playing together and studying the game. Our practices will be full of game like situations training players to execute solid decision making while challenged and fatigued. Student-Athletes on this team will improve over their time in the program - we will put in the time to define weaknesses and strengths and work with those to help players reach athletic potential they didn't know they have. I can't wait to get on the court with this years team and start rebuilding this program.
