Bay Path Honors Herring and Romero in Senior Day Action

LONGMEADOW, Mass.- Bay Path University hosted Dean College in their final regular season match defeating the Bulldogs 16-11 during senior day festivities in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's lacrosse play. Leading the way for the Wildcats was senior attack Kaylee Herring (Worcester, Vt.) and freshman midfielder Samantha Rubacha (Feeding Hills, Mass.) each with five goals. Rubacha had three assists, while Herring had two for the victory.

Six other Wildcats scored goals for the game. Junior defender Megan McKenna (Bennington, Vt.) netted the first goal and assisted in the eventual game winner in the second half at 23:09 passing it to senior midfielder Bianca Romero (Far Rockaway, N.Y.) for the 12^th goal. Romero scored her first collegiate goal on senior day.  McKenna finished with one goal and two assists, while fellow junior defender Megan Mackie (Kaiserslautern, Germany) also tallied two assists and one goal.

Leading the way for the Bulldogs junior midfielder Makayla Fisher (Irvington, N.J.) and freshman attack Lauryn Wilks (Hartford, Conn.) both scoring four goals apiece, while Fisher added an assist.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kristina Tran (Agawam, Mass.) garnered the win facing 23 shots with 12 saves for the day. Junior keeper Jamaya Clevland (Greensboro, Ga.) made 15 saves in net for Dean.

Herring a four year player and starter except her sophomore year sitting due to injury. She played 35 matches with 33 starting nods, tallied 120 goals, 30 assists, 150 points, 99 ground balls, 87 draw controls, 34 caused turnovers, 227 shots, 52.9 shot percentage, 82.4 SOG%.

Romero a two year starting player having played a few matches while also playing tennis. She totaled 21 games played, 20 games started, 1 goal, 18 ground balls, 4 caused turnovers, 33.3 shot percentage, and 66.7 SOG %.

The Wildcats will head into NECC Tournament play as the #4 seed hosting #5 Newbury in the First Round on Tuesday, May 1^st, 2018. Bay Path, Newbury and Mitchell all finished with conference records of 3-4, and tournament seeding came down to tiebreakers. With their higher in-division strength of schedule, Bay Path University nabbed the four seed. Bay Path's Kaylee Herring is in the top five in the conference in goals (42), assists (14), and points (56), and will look to lead the Wildcats over No. 5 Newbury. Newbury, who beat Mitchell head-to-head to land the five seed, is led by talented freshman Venezia Delgadillo, whose 38 goals leads her squad.

The semifinal winners will advance to the NECC Championship, on Saturday, May 5th at the highest remaining seed.
