Bay Path hangs on to win tight NECC 1st Round lacrosse game 11-10 over Newbury College.

LONGMEADOW, Mass - The Bay Path University women's lacrosse team beat Newbury 11-10 in the first round of the New England Collegiate Conference championship on Tuesday. The Wildcats were led by senior Kaylee Herring (Worcester, VT) and freshman Samantha Rubacha (Feeding Hills, MA) who each had three goals. Rubacha also added in an assist.

The Wildcats grabbed an early lead three minutes into the game with a goal by Rubacha. The next four goals belonged to the Wildcats as well. Megan Mackie (Kaiserslautern, Germany) and Taryn Karol-Chik (Bridgewater, Ma) both netted two goals in the victory. Megan Mckenna (Bennington, VT) also added a goal for the Wildcats. Sophomore goalkeeper Kristina Tran (Agawam, MA) contributed 10 saves on 20 shots in the victory.

Bay Path took an 11-6 lead midway through the second half. The Nighthawks brought it to a one goal differential in the last three minutes of the game but the Wildcats then hung on for the victory to move onto the next round in the tournament.

The Nighthawks were led by freshman Venezia Delgadillo (Sharon, MA), who had five goals. Sophia Kiasi (Yorba Linda, CA) also had four goals and an assist, and freshman Hannah Gorham also added one goal for the nighthawks. Keely Molloy had seven saves on 18 shots for the Nighthawks.

The Wildcats improve to 4-8 overall and the Nighthawks end their season with a 3-11 overall record. Bay Path moves on to play the top-seeded Elms College on Thursday, May 3 at 7pm in the Semi-finalround of the NECC Championships.
