Wildcats Blank Nighthawks in Soccer Action
Junior Wildcat goal keeper Samantha Gunseth (Swanzey, N.H.)
notched her first shut-out on the year facing 13 shots while
tallying five saves.
The trio of sophomore forward Sandra DeMoura Caldas (Leal Da
Camara, Portugal), sophomore forward Jacqui Siddle (Palmer, Mass.)
and senior defender Victoria Malanowski (Windsor, Conn.) had a
field day at the expense of the Nighthawks.
DeMoura Caldas recorded her first collegiate hat-trick along with
her first three goals on the season in today’s outing.
Teammate Siddle put her foot on six of the seven goals for the
Wildcats. She tallied two goals and four assist for eight points.
Siddle now leads her team with five goals and four assists for the
2008 campaign. Malanowski netted two goals and one assist. DeMoura
Caldas and Malanowski are now tied at three goals for the year.
Siddle started the ball rolling in the 6th minute when her dynamic
partner for the day Malanowski drew the Nighthawks’ goalie
away and passed the ball inside where Siddle found the left corner
of the net. This would eventually be the game winning shot. Siddle
and Malanowski would combine for three other goals both taking
turns scoring. Malanowski netted the second in the 10th minute and
fourth in the 23rd minute with the help of Siddle. Siddle tallied
the sixth goal in the 76th minute.
DeMoura Caldas broke up the monotony by grabbing the third, fifth
and seventh goal with the help of Siddle, freshman defender
Christina Calabrese (Hamilton, N.J.) and junior defender Christine
Hollingworth (Lenox, Mass.). Caldas netted the final goal in 78th
minute after a break-away up the middle. This would prove to be her
final run as head coach Kerri Verdecchia would finally make some
substitutions.
Newbury’s keeper Anastasia Tridenti (Gloucester, R.I.)
suffered the loss facing 23 shots giving up seven goals while
making six saves. Despite playing one man down, the Nighthawks did
have a few nice offensive pushes with lone freshman forward Rachel
Wysznski (Wilbraham, Mass.) taking five shots of which two were on
goal. Fellow freshman midfielder Jessica Graus (Rochester, N.Y.)
tallied six goals and three shots on goal.
Shots were 23 to 17 in Bay Path’s favor as well as seven to
three in corner kicks. Newbury had six saves to the Wildcats five
saves. Fouls were eleven to four with the home team taking more
whistles.
