Bay Path outlasts Mitchell 5-4 in tennis action
Springfield, Mass. – It was a tight match from the opening doubles to the last singles bu the Bay Path University women's tennis team defeated Mitchell College 5-4, in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action, Saturday afternoon. The match celebrated Senior Day as this was the final home game for 7 seniors. The win secured a spot for the Wildcats in the 2015 NECC Tennis Championships which begin October 17.
Bay Path grabbed an early 2-1 advantage in doubles. Wood and first doubles teammate senior Brittany Walsh (North Smithfield, R.I.) 8-4. Senior Yismel Rosario (Methuen, Mass.) and senior Kim Drahushuk (Hudson, N.Y.) winning 8-5.
Senior Katrina Mannion (Lawrence, Mass.) and senior Brittany Schafer (Brooklyn, N.Y.) lost a close match 8-5.
Senior Taylor Wood (Castleton, N.Y.) led the way to the Wildcats fifth victory of the season with a straight set victory in second singles 6-0, 6-0.
Schafer earned the 4th point of the match with a 2 set win 6-3, 6-0.
Sophomore Katie Leibowitz (Tolland, Conn.) earned the clinching match point with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 win over Wodell.
In the singles portion of the match, senior Edna Aboagye (Wappinger Falls, N.Y.) lost in a 3 set match 7-6, 4-6, 8-3.
The Mariners will be back in action at on 10/12 vs. Lesley University at 11:00 a.m. The Wildcats return to the courts next week in the NECC Tournament.
