Wildcats Host Pioneers in Women’s Home Volleyball Opener

EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. - In their 2018 home opener the Wildcats of Bay Path fell 3-0 (26-24, 25-15, 25-14) to the Pioneers of Smith College. Freshman middle blocker Lydia Clifford (Coventry, R.I.) led the way for the Wildcats with a .368 attack percentage adding 12 kills, two service aces and two blocks despite the loss.

Two sophomore Pioneers, Amy Hagen (Owings, Md.) and Claire Cicchetti (Menlo Park, Calif.) managed to finish with 13 kills helping them to their first victory on the season. Cicchetti topped her team with a stellar .345 attack percentage. Following not far behind was fellow sophomore Caleigh Johnson (Georgetown, Tex.) finishing with seven kills, seven digs and two blocks.

The Libero's from both teams finished with 16 digs each. Bay Path's junior Joanne Nazario (Springfield, Mass.) also added two aces, while Smith's Anna Lynch (Lenox, Mass.) had one service ace. Sophomore setter Latonia Hornsby (Springfield, Mass.) had four kills, eight assists and six digs, while senior setter Lexi Cears (Agawam, Mass.) added nine assists and eight digs.

Bay Path is now 2-3 on the season, while Smith College is 1-4 overall. The Wildcats are back in action Saturday, September 15th, traveling to Adams, Mass to play in another tri-match against host MCLA and NECC opponent Becker College.
