EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. – Freshman middle hitter Lydia Clifford (Coventry, R.I.) registered a match-high 22 kills and senior libero Joanne Nazario (Springfield, Mass.) tallied a staggering 40 digs to lift the Bay Path University women's volleyball team to an impressive 3-1 victory over Mitchell College in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) volleyball Wednesday evening.

Clifford was virtually unstoppable on the offensive side of the net, as she committed just five attack errors in 46 total attempts, good for a .370 hitting percentage, highest among all players from both teams.  She added eight digs and four service aces.

Two other Wildcat freshmen narrowly missed double-digit kills, as outside hitter Shanikqua Thompson (Hamden, Conn.) and middle hitter Lisa Sikop (Easthampton, Mass.) tallied eight kills apiece.

Bay Path also received strong efforts from senior setter Lexi Cears (Agawam, Mass.) who dished out a match-high 37 assists and freshman libero Jessica Warren (Becket, Mass.) who added 11 digs.

The Wildcats grabbed the opening set 25-19, before Mitchell evened the contest with a 25-23 victory in the second set. Bay Path closed out the four-set victory with back-to-back 25-22 wins in the final two stanzas.

Visiting Mitchell was paced by sophomore Laurissa Amaker (North Haven, Conn.) with 10 kills and nine digs, while junior Ariana Carter (Central Falls, R.I.) added nine kills and five total blocks. Sophomore Nikki Gerald (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) chipped in eight kills, while sophomore Shyla Phillips-Krick (Griswold, Conn.) and freshman Cameron Childs (Gainesville, Fla.) posted 18 and 10 digs, respectively.

Both teams return to action with conference matches on Saturday.  The Wildcats (7-11, 3-4 NECC) visit NECC rival New England College in Henniker, N.H. at 5:00 p.m. for Bay Path's final regular-season road matchup of the year.  Mitchell (2-14, 1-5 NECC) hosts Newbury College at noon.
