Bulldogs Top Wildcats 3-1 in NECC Women’s Volleyball

EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. – Despite the tough loss, sophomore Lydia Clifford (Coventry, R.I.) topped all players with a match high .417 attack percentage adding a triple double for her efforts with 15 kills, 12 assists and 25 digs. She also added two blocks and three service aces.   Game scores were 25-22, 26-28, 25-16 and 26-24.

Freshman outside hitter Marissa Courchesne (Belchertown, Mass.) also gave a stellar performance with 14 kills, nine digs, three aces and three assists.

The victorious Bulldogs were led senior outside hitter Melanie Rios-Nevarez (Vega Alta, Puerto Rico) with match high 19 kills. She tallied eight digs along with three service aces. Fellow senior middle hitter Kait Anderson (Clinton, Conn.) wasn't far behind with 18 kills, four aces and six digs.

The Wildcats freshman setter Khyarah "Kiki" Gaston-Feliciano (Holyoke, Mass.) tallied 21 assists. Sophomore outside hitter Lisa Sikop (Easthampton, Mass.) and freshman outside hitter Delaney Ivas (Adams, Mass.) combined for nine kills with both tallying seven digs for the night.

For Dean, freshman setter Sadie Homer (North Easton, Mass.) had the match high 30 assists, adding 12 digs and five service aces.

Both teams were neck in neck for kills and digs for the night, Dean with the small advantage 48-42 in kills, while Bay Path edged the Bulldogs 61-60 in digs.

Dean is now 13-15 overall and 3-7 in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC), Bay Path falls to 7-15 on the season and 3-7 in conference play. Dean hosts Pine Manor on Saturday, October 5th for a double-header beginning starting at 10:30 a.m. Bay Path travels to Eastern Nazarene on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. conference game.
