NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 10, 2016 – The Colby-Sawyer College field hockey team won its fourth straight game with Saturday's 8-1 victory over Bay Path at the Sally Shaw Veitch Turf Field.
The Chargers improve to 4-1 and will continue a five-game home stand on Tuesday against Fitchburg State. Bay Path falls to 0-2 and will travel to Cedar Crest next Saturday.
Colby-Sawyer controlled the game from the opening whistle and finished with a 31-4 advantage in shots.
Junior
Paige Viens (Middlebury, Vt.) set a single game record with seven points and tied for the most goals in a game with a hat-trick, which included the game-winning goal. Sophomore
Nikki Pignone (Ipswich, Mass.) scored a pair of first half goals, including her first collegiate tally. Freshman
Hadley Woodfin (Marblehead, Mass.) also found the back of the cage for the first time in her collegiate career. Sophomore
Sierra Schuster (Hopkinton, N.H.) and freshman
Alie Jones (Cape Neddick, Maine) added a goal apiece in the win.
Bay Path's lone tally came with less than 10 minutes to play in the game off the stick of junior Angela Younger (Charlemont, Mass.).
Sophomore
Xena Ras (Medfield, Mass.) did not allow a goal in close to 60 minutes of action and made one save. Freshman
Hanna Crose (Woodstock Valley, Conn.) played the final 10+ minutes of the game and surrendered one goal.
Bay Path goalie Bethany Rogers (Plymouth, Mass.) made eight saves in each half to finish with 16.
