BAY PATH OPENS SEASON WITH LOSS ON THE ROAD

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- The Wildcats of Bay Path opened up their 2011 season on the road at Springfield College facing Eagles of Brockport State falling 8-0 in women's field hockey action. Senior  goalie Samantha Berrios (New York, N.Y.) tallied eleven saves for the Wildcats despite the tough loss.

Eagles' sophomores Madison Buckley (Liverpool, N.Y.) and Jessica Blind (Webster, N.Y.) led the way for Brockport State notching two goals apiece for the opening macth.

Senior Jessica LoBue(Farmingville, N.Y.) struck first, with an assist from Blind. Blind would then find the back of the net to show 2-0 on the scoreboard. Buckley netted back-to-back goals to build the lead to 4-0 in favor of the Golden Eagles. Blind added another unassisted marker later in the game.

Also scoring for Brockport  was freshman Abby Eschen (Cazenovia, N.Y.) on an assist from LoBue, sophomore Emily Corpin (Peterboro, N.Y.) off a pass from junior Ashley Elmes (Hopewell Jnct., N.Y.) and sophomore Danielle Henck (Sauquoit, N.Y.), with an assist from sophomore Kaitie Kaminski (Eden, N.Y.).

Junior Kasey Schreiner (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) earned the win in goal with one save and facing two shots.  Freshman forward Shayna Fish (Jaffrey, Vt.) tallied two shots for the Wildcats.

Brockport is now 1-0 while Bay Path is 0-1. Bay Path will travel to New York to play in the Vassar Tournament next weekend.
