Bay Path Wins Battle of Cross Town NECC Rival Elms

LONGMEADOW, Mass.- Wildcats freshman midfielder Amanda Bridge (Laconia, N.H.) broke up the scoreless match in the 45th minute after coming back from the break with a shot inside slipping through the sticks. This goal would eventually become the game winner with Bay Path shutting out their NECC rival Elms College 3-0 today at the Ryan Field in field hockey action.

Both teams held each other scoreless with some tough first half defense.  The Blazers had seven shots to Bay Path's five in the first half.

After Bridge opened up the flood gates, the Wildcats were able to maintain control of the offense for the final 20 minutes of play taking eleven shots to the Blazers three for the second half.

Junior midfielder Deanna Flagg (Enfield, Conn.) scored next off a cross inside the circle by freshman forward Shayna Fish (Jaffrey, Vt.) in the 63rd minute.

Freshman forward Katherine Chabot (Brookfield, Mass.) drove in the final goal from 35 yards back to notch another insurance goal for the Wildcats.

Senior goalkeeper Samantha Berrios (New York, N.Y.) recorded her first shut-out for the 2011 season facing ten shots and tallying six saves.

Blazer goalie Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.) suffered the loss facing 16 shots with eight saves.

Bay Path is now 1-5 overall, while Elms is 1-5 on the season. Bay Path will be back in action of Saturday, October 1 at 1:00 p.m. hosting new conference opponent Anna Maria College.
