Wildcats Fall to Blazers in Non-Conference Match-up

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College sophomore forward Ashley Reid (Enfield, Conn.) and junior midfielder Kayla Narey (South Hadley, Mass.) each scored a goal as the Blazers posted a 2-0 non-conference victory over Bay Path College on Saturday morning at Leary Field. Bay Path's freshman keeper Anna Meyer (Millbrook, N.Y) faced 13 shots, eight of which were on goal for her 70 minutes of play.

With the win, Elms improves to 2-7 overall, while Bay Path falls to 0-6 on the season.

With just under 10 minutes to play in the opening stanza, Narey broke a scoreless tie when she received a pass from sophomore forward Meghan Goodrow (Sunderland, Mass.) right in front of the goal and drilled it into the back of the cage to give Elms a 1-0 lead.

Five minutes later sophomore midfielder Hannah O'Brien (Granby, Conn.) played a penalty corner service to junior midfielder Brianna Lyons (Canton, Mass.) who then chipped the ball to Reid who fired in a laser past the Bay Path goalkeeper to extend the Blazers' lead to 2-0 just before intermission.

The Wildcats senior forward Danielle Poulin (Waterville, Maine) had four shots, while sophomore midfielder Katherine Chabot (Brookfield, Mass.) had three shots. Four other wildcats made goal attempts for the day.

In the second half, both sides had several opportunities to score, but neither team was able to net a goal in the final 35 minutes of play as Elms' senior goalkeeper Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.) made eight of her 11 stops in the second half, while four of Wildcats net-minder Meyer's six saves came during second half action.

Elms held a slim lead in shots, 13-12 as Narey led the way with four shots on goal. Bay Path will be back in action travelling to New Hampshire to play NECC rival Daniel Webster College on Saturday, September 6th at 1:00 p.m. Next week begins conference play, today's match was a non-conference bout.
