Blazers Hold Wildcats in a 2-1 Field Hockey Victory

LONGMEADOW, Mass.- Elms' sophomore forward Tatiana Frizell (Brattleboro, Vt.) pushed the Blazers through to a 2-1 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's field hockey victory over the host Wildcats of Bay Pay College.  Bay Path's first-year defender Elizabeth Deane (Agawam, Mass.) scored the lone goal for the Wildcats.

The Blazers sophomore forward Kayla Narey (South Hadley, Mass.) struck first in the ninth minute of play shelling the ball past Bay Path's freshman keeper Anna Meyer (Millbrook, N.Y.).  Just under five minutes later Frizell would find the back of the net for the final time off a cross inside by junior midfielder Julie Hurley (Palmer, Mass.).

Bay Path would launch their counter offensive with Deane's goal at 20:39 off a great pass down the middle by junior midfielder Ruth Choate (Lewiston, Maine).

Both teams finished scoring in the first half with either team taking a shot despite some penalty corners in the second half. Bay Path controlled the ball most of the second half but was unable to knot the score and break through Elms early scoring.

Meyer would suffer the loss with three saves facing six shots, five on goal, for the contest. Senior net minder Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.) would pick up the win also nabbing three saves facing seven shots and four on goal.

Elms is now 4-8 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while Bay Path falls to 0-8 on the season 0-2 in the NECC.

The Blazers host Framingham State on Thursday, October 11^th at 4:00 p.m. in a non-conference match, while the Wildcats host Regis in an NECC game on Friday, October 12^th at 3:00 p.m.
