Wildcats Fall to Hawks in Season Opener 2-1

CHICOPEE, Mass.-  Sophomore forward Kacy Hikel (Kenduskeag, Maine) scored the first goal of the match and her first collegiate goal for the Wildcats. Despite breaking up the scoreless bout in the second half the Hawks of Roger Williams would answer back and then score the game winner in the final two minutes of play. The first year program would pick up their first ever win 2-1 over host Bay Path, who enters their sixth season of existence.  

Both teams would remain scoreless in the first half with the Wildcats sophomore keeper Anna Meyer (Millbrook, N.Y.) facing 16 shots. Meyer r would finish facing 30 shots, 19 of which were on goal. She would notch 17 saves and two goals against.

Hikel connected with the first goal of the season in the 39th minute off a pass from teammate and sophomore forward Danielle Hutchinson (Salem, N.H.).

With the score 1-0, the Hawks retaliated a minute and a half later when  freshman  Nicole Angeley (Norwalk, Conn.) came through with the first official goal in RWU history with an unassisted goal to knot the score.

 

Unfortunately for the Wildcats, the Hawks would find the back of the net once again at 67:08 on the clock. Fellow freshman midfielders would connect with Stephanie Yaeger (Gansevoort, N.Y.) finding Meghan Curran (West Milford, N.J.) for the game winner.

Bay Path will be back in action next weekend travelling to Smith for the Betty Richey Tournament beginning Friday, September 6th at a 7:00 p.m. start time against host Smith College.
