Kean Downs Bay Path 8-0 in Field Hockey Action

CHICOPEE, Mass.- The Wildcats of Bay Path fell 8-0 to the Cougars of Kean University in NCAA DIII women's field hockey action today at the Blazer Field. Today's match was an injury fest with the host Wildcats playing down at one point four players due to injury and heat exhaustion on this very hot fall day. The Cougars head coach Leslie LaFonz  played down appropriate number of players in the second half showing good sportsmanship with both teams sporting eight players at the beginning of the second half.

The Cougars' junior midfielder Marissa Robinson (Bear, Del.) scored the first and eventual game winner at 2:15 into the game unassisted. Freshman forward Krista LaMaina (Oaklyn, N.J.) struck next at 4:29 on the clock scoring off a rebound.  LaMaina's twin sister Shauna LaMaina (Oaklyn, N.J.) followed her sister's lead and scored the third goal in the same fashion off a rebound three minutes later.  Krista LaMaina would score one more in the second half off a cross by Robinson.

Junior forward Chelsea Mann (Greentown, Penn.) would register a hat-trick scoring the fourth, sixth and eighth and final goal for the Cougars.  The fifth goal and final goal of the first half was shot by junior reservist Jordan Melillo (Hopatcong, N.J.).

Junior goalkeeper Katie DiCarlo (Shamong, N.J.) shared the shut-out with freshman keeper Kimberly Ging (Long Branch, N.J.).

Junior goalkeeper Anna Meyer (Millbrook, N.Y.) suffered the loss despite giving up eight goals she faced an amazing 32 shots with 22 saves on the day.

Bay Path falls to 0-8 overall, while Kean is now 7-3 on the season. The Wildcats will travel to Johnson and Wales on Tuesday, September 30th for a 4:00 p.m. game. The Cougars are back in action on Tuesday on the road facing FDU-Florham.
