Bay Path Concludes Season with a 9-2 Loss Against Wheelock

Dawson and Oliveira Honored During Senior Night
CHICOPEE, Mass. – Despite a late surge by the Wildcats of Bay Path, Wheelock proved the better cats defeating their host 9-2 in the final regular season match tonight at Leary Field on the campus of Elms College for Senior Night. Seniors honored were forward Jennifer Dawson (Buckland, Mass.) and defender Kristen Oliveira (Thorndike, Mass.).
Wheelock's junior forward Katie Frade (Dartmouth, Mass.) garnered the hat-trick scoring the first goal of the game at 8:13 on the clock. She would go on to score two more in the first half. Fellow junior forward Abbey Raymond (Salem, N.H.) would also come away with a well played hat-trick including the eventual game winner in the 22nd minute of play. Raymond would also score the seventh and ninth goal.
After Frade's first goal freshman forward Melanie Newberg (Raynham, Mass) would cross the ball inside to senior midfielder Courtney Scherer (Pawcatuck, Conn.) after a penalty corner netting the ball. Scherer took all the penalty corners for Wheelock and would assist Frade on the fourth goal.
Frade would notch the final assist in the first half to Newburg at 32:58. Newburg would secure the final goal for the Wheelock cats in the 64th minute.
Bay Path would break apart the shut-out in the 56th minute after a made penalty kick from Dawson. Freshman Josephine Orrick (Belden, Miss.) would score the second goal for Bay Path in the 65th minute of play concluding all scoring for the match. Junior midfielder Casey LaMotte (Enfield, Conn.) would add the assist.
The Wildcats of Wheelock improve to 7-9 overall and 6-3 in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC), Bay Path concludes their 2016 campaign at 3-11 and 3-7 in the NECC. Dawson finishes her four year career with 55 games played, two goals, three assists, 22 shots, one GW and 1 defensive save. Oliveira played the last two seasons at Bay Path concluding with 28 games played, four assists, 19 shots and eight defensive saves.
