Smith Defeats Bay Path 12-2

LONGMEADOW, Mass.--Freshman outfielder Katherine Chabot (Brookfield, Mass.) led the Wildcats for the day going 2-for-3 with one run. Despite a 2-1 lead in the first three innings, Bay Path fell 12-2 to the Pioneers of Smith College in a five inning game NCAA DIII softball game today.

Smith scored one run in the first taking advantage of a Wildcat error. Bay Path came back to score two in the bottom of the first. Freshman Marina Rhodes (Providence, R.I.) walked, while next up to bat Chabot nabbed a single to centerfield. Fellow freshman catcher Nicole Ogden (Springfield, Mass.)shelled a hard shot to left field for the double plating Rhodes. senior infielder Maeghan Whitcomb (Sheffield, Vt.) would then single through the left side sending Chabot home.

Unfortunately, for the WIldcats this would be the last runs cored. Smith would come back in the fourth and gain the lead scoring five runs and would later add six more in the sixth gaining the eight run rule lead.

Sophomore pitche/outfielder Keelin Dougherty (Northfield, N.H.) would suffer the loss allowing 12 runs on 15 hits, only ten earned for the five innings tossed. Dougherty (3-10) would strike out one and walk four for the single game.

Senior infielder Emily Evans (Westford, Mass.) was the only other Wildcat to get a hit on the day.

Bay Path is now 5-18 overall and will travel to New London tomorrow for a make-up double header against NECC opponente Mitchell College for a 3:00 p.m. start.
