The Lynx Clawed Past the Wildcats

LONGMEADOW, Mass.- The Wildcats fell to New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) perennial powerhouse the Lynx of Lesley University in a softball doubleheader today during their PINK OUT day. Both games were five inning bouts with the Lynx shutting down Bay Path with the run rule taking the opener 19-3 and the nightcap 13-2. Junior captains Emily Serrano (North Adams, Mass.) and Keelin Dougherty (Northfield, N.H.)  were the only two Wildcats to hit safely in both contests.

Two separate Lynx scattered three hits in the first game. Junior shortstop Sarah Apgar (Andover, N.J.) led the way going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run and a double; while junior hurler Nicole Mercurio (Wakefield, Mass.) went 3-for- 5  with three runs and two RBI. Mercurio (6-4) earned the victory giving up three runs on six hits. She struck out three and walked four batters.

Dougherty (7-12) suffered the loss giving up ten runs on seven hits.

In the nightcap, sophomore outfielder Jodee Doka (Sacramento, Calif.) topped the Lyn going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI including a triple. Serrano also shelled out a triple in the game adding one RBI and one run. The Lynx senior  designated player Emily Mangiaratti (Amherst, Mass.) also had three hits chipping in two hits and two RBI.

Freshman pitcher Jordan Thomas (Fitchburg, Mass.) earned the victory  after coming in for relief in the second inning. Thomas (4-4) tossed four innings giving up one run on two hits fanning six for the contest.

The Wildcats, freshman hurler Katrina Lury (Corinth, Vt.) went the distance allowing 13 runs only nine earned off of 15 hits. Lury (5-5) struck out one and walked four.

Bay Path is now 12-20 overall and 4-8 in the NECC, Lesley is 13-13 on  the season and 9-1 in conference play.
