Wildcats Run Rule Gators In Double Header Softball Action

LONGMEADOW, Mass.-  The Wildcats of Bay Path University outscored the Gators of Pine Manor 31 to 1 in ten innings today in an NCAA Division III regional softball double header. Bay Path's game one hurler pitcher Sarah Paskiewicz (Ansonia, Conn.) picked up the shut-out facing 19 batters only allowing four hits, while striking out two for the opener. The Wildcats' took game one 18-0 and game two 13-1. Leading the way for Bay Path was freshman infielder (3B) Gillian Flynn (Windsor, Conn.) going six-for-eight on the day with four RBI, three runs including two doubles.

The first game of the double header the Wildcats jumped ahead early scoring seven runs in the first, three in the second and eight more insurance runs in the third. Sophomore outfielder Gretchen Hale (Naugatuck, Conn.) scored the first run off junior outfielder Casey Botelho's (Providence, R.I.) well placed bunt. This would become the eventual game winner for the Wildcats. Flynn and junior centerfielder Paige Marshall (New Britain, Conn.) each recorded doubles, while junior infielder Anna Meyer (Millbrook, N.Y.) notched her first collegiate in the park homerun.  

Hale finished 2-for-2 with two runs and 1 RBI for the opener, while Meyer went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

The Gators' junior pitcher Anastasia Walker (West Springfield, Mass.) tallied a double. Walker suffered the loss tossing 2.1 innings giving up 17 runs, 10 of which were earned while walking eight and striking out one for her appearance. Coming in for relief was freshman Ashley Whiteshield (Seward, Alaska) giving up only four hits and one run. She walked two and fanned one to close.

The Wildcats took the nightcap 13-1.  Junior Wildcat pitcher Maria Carta (Middletown, Conn.) picked up the victory tossing five innings giving up six hits and allowing only one run. Carta fanned four and walked two for the nightcap. Junior hurler Chardonai Rose (Fairfield, Calif.) suffered the loss allowing 13 runs, seven earned, on 12 hits.

The Wildcats again jumped ahead early scoring four runs in the first and seven in the second.  Pine Manor  broke up the shut-out in the fourth scoring their lone run, while Bay Path answered again with two more runs.

Once again four batters hit on the day for the Gators including Walker who went 2-for-4 as did junior outfielder Vanessa Soto (Fontana, Calif.). Soto also scored their run on a Carta wild pitch and also tallied a double for the contest.

Botelho, Flynn, Paskiewicz and freshman shortstop Lauren Vallee (Bristol, Conn.) each had doubles for the game.  Meyer added a triple to her daily tally.

Bay  Path will be back in action on tomorrow Wednesday, April 15th hosting Wentworth in a double header beginning at 3:30, Pine Manor will travel to play Mass. Maritime on Thursday, April 16th also for a 3:30 p.m. start. Bay Path is now 4-13 overall, while Pine Manor is 0-12.
