Wildcats Take Eagles in NECC Action

LONGMEADOW, Mass.-  The Wildcats of Bay Path University took two from New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) rival the Eagles of Daniel Webster College shutting them down 7-0 in the first and 4-1 in the nightcap. Bay Path's freshman shortstop Lauren Vallee (Bristol, Conn.) topped the Wildcats going 4-for-7 with two runs and two RBI. Vallee had two doubles.

In the first game, junior pitcher Kate Sirois (Windsor, Conn.) tossed a four hitter to gain the shut-out. Sirois fanned three and walked three for the win. The Eagles' senior pitcher Sarah Durocher (Keene, N.H.) suffered the loss giving up seven runs, six earned, on 12 hits.

The game was a pitching duel for the first three innings until the Wildcats broke loose in the bottom of the fourth scoring two runs. Senior catcher Nicole Ogden (Springfield, Mass.) plated junior infielder Anna Meyer (Millbrook, N.Y.) on a double shot to left field. Ogden would then score the second run on a deep hit to the short stop by junior designated player (Hartford, Conn.).

Bay Path would add three more in the fifth and two in the sixth. Freshman infielder Gillian Flynn (Windsor, Conn.) would notch a double shot with 2 RBI's in the fifth.

In the nightcap, the Eagles struck first taking advantage of some bad weather and scoring a run in the first when Durocher plated freshman outfielder Julia Bodoni (Tewksbury, Mass.) on a hard shot to centerfield but was thrown out trying to reach second. Unfortunately for the Eagles, this would conclude their scoring for the day.

The Wildcats would knot the game in the fourth off an Eagles error with Vallee scoring after a single shot down the left field line.

Bay Path would finally take the lead in the fifth again taking advantage of some errors with senior infielder Marina Rhodes (Providence, R.I.) scoring the eventual game winner.

Rhodes would also come up big in the sixth with a double shot plating senior centerfielder Katherine Chabot (Brookfield, Mass.) and sophomore catcher Jackie Lafleur (Gill, Mass.).

Freshman hurler Sarah Paskiewicz (Ansonia, Conn.) tossed the win allowing only one unearned run on five hits. Paskiewicz struck out two and walked two for her seven innings of work. Durocher, again, suffered the loss. She gave up four unearned runs on four hits.

Bay Path is now 6-15 overall and 3-5 in the NECC, Daniel Webster is now 4-18 on the season and 2-12 in league play.
