Bio

Steven Smith is in his 20th year as Head Softball Coach at Bay Path University.  He brought six years of experience in intercollegiate athletics to the program, having been the part-time head softball and basketball coach and part-time administrator at Bay Path College.  

  • His teams have won over 200 games overall.
  • His teams have gone on to make 11 post-season appearances since 2012.  
  • He has coached over two dozen All-Conference players and more 50 All-Academic student-athletes.  
  • The program has also produced three Conference Players of the Year, 2002 Co-NAC Player of the Year Brandy Pearson, (Rome, NY) and 2010 NECC Player of the Year Sarah Gates, (Granby, Conn.) and 2017 NECC Player of the Year Lauren Vallee (Bristol, CT).
  • Coach Smith also coached Gates to the 2010 NCAA Division III National Batting Title with a stunning .549 avg.
  • Coached team to 2018 NECC Softball Championship
  • Teamed was selected to the 2018 NCAA Softball Championship and participated in the Ithaca Regional.
  • Named 2018 NECC Softball Coach of the Year
 

Coach Smith completed his Master's Degree in Education with a specialization in Sports Management at Springfield College (1988), and his B.A. in Psychology from St. John Fisher College (1985). He maintains many professional associations and is First Aid and CPR/AED certified.

He has served on the New England NCAA Regional Softball committee for a total of 5 years during 2 different stints. He was assistant New England Regional site administrator for the NCAA in 2013 and Site Adminstrator in 2015.  Coach Smith has also be a speaker and presenter at softball clinics, camps and programs through out New England.

In his current position, he is responsible for administration, coaching, recruiting, training and teaching the skills necessary for college student athletes to succeed in their sport.  

Bay Path University is a founding member of the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC).  Steve was also the past commissioner of the North Atlantic Conference (NAC), where he worked successfully with NAC colleagues to become a recognized NCAA Division III Conference.
