Wildcats Fall to Nighthawks

BROOKLINE, Mass.-The Newbury College women's basketball team extended their winning streak to four games by defeating NECC opponent Bay Path College 74-59.  The Nighthawks were lead by Shayla White (Dorchester, MA) who scored a career game high 20 points including three 3-pointers. 

Newbury took an early lead but the Wildcats fought back in the first half tying the game at 12 with a three-point play by Justine Hook (Berwick, PA).  The Nighthawks broke it open soon after highlighted by Ashley Monterio (Cambridge, MA) draining a 3-point buzzer-beater extending the lead to eleven at the half, 34-23.  That shot was the first of four 3-pointers by Monterio who finished with the contest with 18 total points. 

Center Catherine O'Connell, who leads the NCAA Division III in rebounds-per-game, added 14 rebounds in the Nighthawks victory.  Jasmine Bishop (Waterville, ME) also helped Newbury pound the boards adding 12 rebounds of her own in addition to 8 points.  Bay Path's Justine Hook and Taylor Riley (Colchester, VT) lead their squad in the losing effort with 20 and 14 points, respectively.

Nighthawks improve their overall record to 5-7 and 2-1 in NECC play.  Newbury looks to extend their winning streak to five in their next contest in Leicester against conference foe Becker College on Thursday.  The Wildcats of Bay Path College, who fall to 0-11 on the season and 0-3 in the NECC, will also play on Thursday versus Lesley University.
