Blazers Comeback to Defeat Wildcats 74-61

HOLYOKE, Mass.-  Despite a stellar first half performance by the Wildcats, two game ending injuries proved to be too much for Bay Path falling 74-61 to local New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) rival the Blazers of Elms College.  Junior forward Denisha Parks (Fall River, Mass.) led all players with a sizzling 34 points and chipping in 11 boards. Wildcats' senior forward Kayla Skiffington (East Longmeadow, Mass.) topped her team with 16 points and 14 rebounds.

Wildcat guards' freshman Aaliyah Gordon (Springfield, Mass.)  and junior Toni Alexander (Enfield, Conn.) both finished with 14 points and combined for 10 assists.

Prior to both injuries senior guard Justine Hook (Berwick, Penn.) and freshman guard Brenna Roy (Stafford Springs, Conn.) were lighting up the arc combining for five treys. Roy finished with nine points and three steals.

The Wildcats headed into the locker room at the half with an eight point advantage 42-34. Unfortunately for Bay Path the Blazers managed to make more shots both teams finished with 62 attempts. Elms was 28-for-62 with a 45.2%, while Bay Path was 22-for-62 with a 35.5% shooting percentage.

Elms' junior forward JC Pickett (Chicopee, Mass.) was the only other player besides Parks and Skiffington to produce a double double adding 14 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman guard Marissa Merrill (Meredith, N.H.) tallied 13 points for the night.

Bay Path falls to 7-14 on the season and 6-8 in the NECC, while Elms improves to 11-9 overall and 10-3 in conference play. On Saturday, February 8^th Elms will hosts Lesley at 2:00 p.m., while Bay Path travels to Mitchell for a 1:00 p.m. tip-off.
