Wildcats lose to SUNY Cobleskill in season opener.

 

Oswego, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team opened the season with a 54-46 victory over Bay Path College in the opening round of the Max Ziel Women's Basketball Tournament hosted by SUNY Oswego at the Max Ziel Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. The victory was the first career win at the collegiate level for first-year Fighting Tigers Head Coach Phil Knapp and is the team's first win in a season opener since 2011. With the victory Cobleskill opens the season with a 1-0 mark while Bay Path falls to 0-1 on the campaign.

Sophomore forward/guard Shelby Preston, Ravena, N.Y., Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School, was the driving force for the Orange & Black in the victory posting a double/double with 17 points, 18 rebounds, along with seven assists and two blocked shots on the afternoon, Cobleskill also received strong outings from sophomore forward Jocelyn Zaneski, Riverhead, N.Y., Riverhead High School, who was a perfect four-of-four from the field and two-of-two from the free throw line in for 10 points to go with five rebounds while freshman guard Annette Hogan, Margaretville, N.Y., Margaretville High School, added 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists on the day.

The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Sunday afternoon when they play in the tournament championship game at 4:30 p.m. versus the winner of the D'Youville College vs. SUNY Oswego game played on Saturday evening.
