Bay Path Falls to Mitchell in Conference Home Opener

HOLYOKE, Mass.- The Wildcats fell 70-44 against New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) rival Mitchell College 70-44 in tonight's conference home opener.  Despite a valiant second half effort by Bay Path with the Mariners only scoring one more basket than the Wildcats 29-27, Bay Path was unable to make a strong enough dent in the first half surge by Mitchell.  Mitchell was led by junior forward Amanda Garcia (New Britain, Conn.) with game high 21 points adding 12 rebounds. Bay Path's freshman guard Kaylee Herring (Worcester, Vt.) led her team with 20 points, including five treys.

Both teams began the game with baskets from downtown with sophomore guard Jessica Shepherd (West Hartford, Conn.) hitting the first for Mitchell right off the jump, Herring answered hitting a three on Bay Path's possession.  Mitchell slowly began to add to their 41 points for the first 20 minutes. Shepherd also hit five three pointers finishing with 19 points.

Junior guard Diamond Thomas (Hartford, Conn.) added 13 points for Mitchell, while coming off the bench junior guard Savannah Boyle (Attleboro, Mass.) chipped in seven points and seven rebounds. Defensively, senior forward Dazjavia Williams (Waterbury, Conn.) topped all players with 13 boards.

Bay Path had two players with six points junior guard Dallas Jackson (Springfield, Mass.) and coming off the bench sophomore forward Briana Kujawski (Webster, Mass.). Sophomore small forward Frankie Wauneka (Easthampton, Mass.) led her team with nine rebounds.

Mitchell grabs their first win on the season with 1-4 overall record a 1-1 in conference play, Bay Path is now 0-6 and 0-2 in the NECC. Bay Path travels to Wheelock on Saturday, December 6th for a 4:00 p.m. tip-off, while Mitchell hosts Elms on Saturday at a 1:00 p.m. start.
