Eagles Barely Fly Past Wildcats in NECC Action

HOLYOKE, Mass.- Sophomore forward Frankie Wanueka (Easthampton, Mass.) pulled off a double double with 10 points and 20 rebounds. Wanueka topped all players defensively with a season high 20 boards. Despite the second half surge, Bay Path was not able to pull off the win falling 58-50 to Daniel Webster giving the Eagles the first win of the season. The Wildcats outscored the Eagles 26-24 in the second half, but ran out of time to gain the lead.

Two Eagles scored in the double figures including sophomore guard Kayla Free (Quincy, Mass.) with the game-high 22 points and eleven rebounds notching the other double double in the game. Junior guard Ashley England (Old Town, Maine) added 17 points, while hitting two treys.

Coming off the bench for the Wildcats, sophomore forward Briana Kujawski (Webster, Mass.) led her team with 13 points while pulling down nine rebounds. Kujawski went 7-for-9 from the charity stripe with a .778 free throw percentage. Sophomore guard Aaliyah Gordon (Springfield, Mass.) tied Wanueka with ten points.

Bay Path outhustled the Eagles under the boards with 50 total rebounds to Daniel Webster's 43 for the game. The Eagles speed helped win them the game scoring 10 points on fast break shots, with Bay Path unable to convert one steal to a quick break basket.

With the victory Daniel Webster is now 1-9 on the season and 1-2 in conference play, while Bay Path is 0-8 overall and 0-4 in the NECC. Bay Path will be back in action on Tuesday, January 13th traveling to Regis for a 6:00 p.m. start, while Eagles will host Mitchell on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
