Blazers Storm Past Wildcats in Women’s Hoops Action

CHICOPEE, Mass.- The Wildcats of Bay Path University played host to cross county rivals in the Blazers of Elms College on their home turf in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's basketball tonight in a make-up game where the Blazers defeated Bay Path 85-55 taking advantage of their home court. The Blazers' senior forward Denisha Parks (Fall River, Mass.) led all players with 18 points, while adding 7 rebounds. Bay Path was led by sophomore guard Aaliyah Gordon (Springfield, Mass.) with 15 points and five boards.

Four players including Parks scored in double figures tonight including sophomore point guard Emily Burr (East Hartford, Conn.) with 15 points, three assists and nailing three from downtown. Coming off the bench, senior guard Gianna Youngblood (Lakeville, Mass.)  added 13 points going 2-for-5 from the arc, while chipping in three assists and three rebounds.

Rounding out the double digits was another reservist sophomore forward Alexandra Marques (Newington, Conn.) with ten points and tied for team high rebounds with eight for the contest. Senior forward JC Pickett (Chicopee, Mass.) also finished with eight boards while scoring eight points and adding one block.

Sophomore forward Dallas Jackson (Springfield, Mass.) was not far behind Gordon with 14 points, four assists and four rebounds before getting injured in the second half. Sophomore guard Brenna Roy (Stafford Springs, Conn.) added 13 points. Roy scored three treys and went a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe.

Defensively, sophomore forward Frankie Wauneka (Easthampton, Mass.) topped all players for the Wildcats with 12 rebounds and was one bucket shy from a double double scoring 9 points. Freshman point guard Kaylee Herring (Worcester, Mass.) had four points and three assists.

Elms is now 15-7 overall and 13-2 in the NECC, while Bay Path is now 4-14 on the season and 4-10 in league play. Bay Path travels to Becker on Saturday, February 14th for a 1:00 p.m. tip-off, while Elms hosts Regis in a Valentine's Day battle of the #1 and #2 with a 1:00 p.m. tip-off.
