Wildcats Take Lynx in NECC Women’s Hoops Action

HOLYOKE, Mass. - The Wildcats defeated the Lesley University Lynx 56-44 tonight in a rescheduled New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) match from a January snow storm cancellation. Bay Path pulled off another victory despite losing their leading scorer last week during the Elms contest to a season ending injury. Three Wildcats scored in double figures including the leading scorer sophomore forward Frankie Wauneka (Easthampton, Mass.) who tallied the lone double double with 18 points and another game high in 12 rebounds.

Four of Bay Path's starters played all forty minutes including Wauneka, point guard Kaylee Herring (Worcester, Mass.), sophomore guard Brenna Roy (Stafford Springs, Conn.) and sophomore guard Aaliyah Gordon (Springfield, Mass.). Roy and Herring were both hot from behind the arc tonight. Roy finished with 17 points going 5-for-18 from downtown while Herring finished with 15 points going 3-for-8 for three pointers. Gordon chipped in 10 boards, six points, four assists, four steals, and two blocks. Herring topped all players with six assists and added four rebounds and three steals. Roy was also a force inside with six rebounds, two steals and three assists.

The Lynx leader scorer was sophomore forward Emily Meade (Derry, N.H.) with nine points and eight rebounds. Junior guard Ari Dimou (Manchester, N.H.) was not far behind with eight points and seven rebounds. Two of Lesley players each chipped in seven points including junior guard Jackie Ewing (Hong Kong, Hong Kong S.A.R., China) and senior forward Anthea Rathjens (Sudbury, Mass.). Rathjens also added rebounds.  

 Sharing time as fifth man on the court was freshman guard Prianka Naha (Bristol, Conn.)  and sophomore guard Jaclyn Lafleur (Gill, Mass.). Lafleur came off the bench adding six rebounds and three steals, while Naha who got in foul trouble early had two boards and two steals.

Bay Path is now 5-15 overall and 5-11 in the NECC, while Lesley falls to 1-21 on the season and 1-13 in conference play. Both teams will meet up again on Lesley's home turf on Thursday, February 19^th at 8:00 p.m.
