HERRING REGISTERS 100th CAREER GOAL IN LOSS TO WHEELOCK
LONGMEADOW, Mass. – Bay Path University senior Kaylee Herring (Worcester, Vt.) recorder her 100th career goal as the Wildcats fell to visiting Wheelock College, 19-5, in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action Sunday afternoon at Ryan Field. Bay Path dips to 1-6 on the season and 1-2 in the NECC, while Wheelock improves to 3-0 in conference and 5-3 overall.
Bay Path grabbed an early lead as freshman Samantha Rubacha (Feeding Hills, Mass.) potted a pair of goals off assists from Herring to spot the Wildcats a 2-1 lead with 24:12 on the clock. Wheelock responded with 13 straight goals to close out the first half, ignited by an equalizer from junior Alexah Mellis (East Longmeadow, Mass.). Six different scorers registered goals during the first half spurt, including three goals from junior Colleen Macdonald (Sandwich, Mass.) and two-goal efforts from junior Georgia Schindele (Sparkill, N.Y.), sophomore Katelyn Dickson (Dracut, Mass.) and freshman Ashley Eppolito (Nashua, N.H.), as Wheelock possessed a 14-2 advantage at the break.
Wheelock opened the second half scoring with a strike from junior Keegan Hughes (Ipswich, Mass.), followed by a tally from senior Katie Frade (Dartmouth, Mass.) to build a 16-2 lead. Bay Path halted the Wheelock run as Rubacha converted off a feed from Herring in the 37th minute. Wheelock added to their advantage with back-to-back goals from Eppolito and Schindele.
Herring recorded her milestone goal at the 14:45 mark of the second half, and then added another goal less than two minutes later to trim the gap to 18-5. Frade delivered a final strike in the last minute of play to send Wheelock to the 19-5 win.
Rubacha paced the Wildcats offense with three goals, while Herring added two goals and three assists for a team-high five points. Sophomore Kristina Tran (Agawam, Mass.) recorded a game-high 14 saves in the loss.
Frade and Macdonald powered the Wheelock attack with four goals apiece, while Frade added two assists for a game-high six points. Schindele and Eppolito potted three goals each, while Dickson notched two goals in the win. Senior goalie Erin Sior (Shrewsbury, Mass.) tallied three saves in the win.
Bay Path will look to return to the win column when they host Becker College in NECC action at Ryan Field Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. Wheelock travels to Dean College for and NECC game Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
