Bay Path holds off Becker College 16-8 in NECC Win

LONGMEADOW, Mass. – Bay Path University senior Kaylee Herring (Worcester, Vt.) tallied 7 goals and 3 assists as the Wildcats defeated visiting Becker College, 16-8, in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action Wednesday afternoon at Ryan Field. Bay Path improves to 2-6 on the season and 2-2 in the NECC, while Becker falls to 0-4 in conference and 1-8 overall.

 Bay Path grabbed an early lead as freshman Samantha Rubacha (Feeding Hills, Mass.) scored a pair of goals and had 2 assists to spot the Wildcats a 5-2 lead with 21:06 on the clock.  Taryn Karol-Chik (Bridgewater, Mass.) chipped in 2 goals durign this stretch. Cassandra Nelson (Exeter, NH)) had 3 of Beckers goals as they finished the 1st half trailing 9-4.

Becker opened the second half scoring with 3 quick scores by Nelson and Samantha Carter (Boothbay Harbor, ME) to get to 9-7 over the first 9 minutes.   That was when Bay Path outscored Becker over the next 20 minutes scoring 7 goals to 1 to extend the lead to 16-8. Megan McKenna (Bennington, VT) chipped in 2 goals and 1 assist for the Wildcats

 The goaltenders were busy on the Sophomore Kristina Tran (Agawam, Mass.) faced 40 shots and recorded a game-high 18 saves in the win, while Becker goalkeeper Nikolle Storey (Cumberland, ME) saw 31 shots and stopped 11 in the loss.

 Bay Path will travel to Mitchell College in NECC action Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Becker travels to Dean College for an NECC game Saturday at 12 noon.
