Wildcats Succumb to Falcons in Women’s Soccer Home Opener

LONGMEADOW, Mass.— Freshman keeper Marina Rhodes (Providence, R.I.) made 18 saves for the Wildcats despite a 7-0 loss for Bay Path falling to regional opponent Albertus Magnus today at Ryan Field in their 2011 home opener.

The Falcons' sophomore midfielder Shelley Mirmina (Milford, Conn.) struck first at 4:58 on the clock taking advantage of misplayed shot nailing the back of the net for the first and eventual game winner.

Sophomore midfielder Maeghan Skidmore (Terryville, Conn.) tallied the next two goals quickly scoring at 25:07 and coming back to nail the next shot thirty seconds later.

Coming off the bench, junior midfielder Sarah DiCenzo (Wallingford, Conn.) tagged the fourth goal at 27:18. DiCenzo would then lift a perfect cross from the corner to teammate junior Danielle Figueroa (Bridgeport, Conn.) for the fifth and final goal of the first half.

The Wildcats suffered three injuries and had to utilize their bench for most of the second half. Despite their trials the maroon and white were able to keep the Falcons to scoring only two more for the game.

The other Skidmore sister sophomore Shannon Skidmore (Terryville, Conn.) scored the sixth goal at 47:40. The final goal came from senior defender Sarah Boudreau (Pascoag, R.I.) at 88:53 on the clock. Boudreau nailed a 30 yard shot from a drive up the center.

Rhodes suffered the loss facing 34 shots, while junior Kelly Marchitto (West Haven, Conn.) is now 1-0. Marchitto had 2 saves facing four shots.

Bay Path is now 0-2 in the season and Albertus Magnus is 2-1 overall. The Wildcats will host Johnson State at noon on Sunday, September 11th.
