Wildcats Notch First Win of the 2011 Season

NASHUA, N.H. – The Wildcats of Bay Path earn their first win of the season with a 2-1 victory over the Eagles of Daniel Webster College in both teams' 2011 New England Collegiate Conference opener Saturday at Eagle Field.

First year head coach Nick Chapman pulled off a big conference win over the Eagles after a pre-season poll that had Daniel Webster finishing two spots higher than the Wildcats.

Sophomore midfielder Keelin Dougherty (Northfield, N.H.) goal with 12:54 remaining off a corner kick proved to be the game winner as the Wildcats (1-4, 1-0 NECC) broke the knotted game.

Daniel Webster (0-3, 0-1 NECC) took the lead  at 3:31 into the second half as senior Nikki Gassert (Woodbridge, N.J.) buried a 10 yarder to the low right corner after picking up a Kirsten Murphy (Woodstock, Vt.) clear.

But Bay Path would answer seven minutes later with sophomore Samantha Bujak (Suffield, Conn.) shellacking a 35-yard free kick from the far left side that hooked just past Eagle netminder Amy Waller (Berlin, Mass.) to tie the score 1-1.

Bay Path would finish with a 10-5 shots on goal advantage and a 17-10 advantage in total shots.

Waller would finish with eight saves for DWC, while sophomore keeper Melina Isdith (Rego Park, N.Y.) made four stops for the Wildcats.

Bay Path will host Hampshire College on Tuesday, September 20th at a 4:30 p.m. start at Ryan Field.
