Hampshire Narrowly Takes Bay Path 3-2 in Women’s Soccer Action

LONGMEADOW, Mass.- The Wildcats tried to wage a late game rally to come from behind from a two goal deficit only to fall short in the final minutes allowing Hampshire College to take the victory 3-2 in women's soccer action today at Ryan Field.  Sophomore midfielder Keelin Dougherty (Northfield, N.H.) led the charge for the Wildcats tallying three points with a goal and an assist for the match.

Hampshire struck first when midfielder Julie Pedtke found the back at 12:23 on the clock of the net after two failed attempts by her teammates. Pedkte finally score on the third rebounded shot after forward Amber Bonariggo's shot was deflected by a Bay Path defender. Bonariggo was awarded the assist.

Dougherty answered back two minutes later knotting the score 1-1 after she dribbled the ball in single handed from the midfield line and nailed a shot from 25 yards back past Hampshire's keeper Allison Stoney.

Bonariggo tallied the third goal at 37:03 off a cross inside from teammate Arianna Rose putting Hampshire up 2-1 heading into the half-time break.

Hampshire again answered the call with the eventual game winner in the 60th minute when Pedtke once again scored off a cross from Kira McCoy.

In a valiant final fifteen minutes of play Bay Path stepped up their offensive game and Dougherty managed to connect with forward Nicole Crossman (Winsted, Con.) inside  to come within one goal 3-2.  Despite some great shots by Crossman and sophomore defender Samantha Bujak (Suffield, Conn.) the Wildcats were unsuccessful in their final efforts.

Stoney faced nine shots, six on goal, and tallied four saves. Wildcats' sophomore goalkeeper Melina Isdith (Rego Park, N.Y.) suffered the loss facing 22 shots, 13 on goal, with six saves. Bay Path finished with four team saves.
