Mountaineers Climb Past Wildcats 2-1 in NECC Women’s Soccer Action

LONGMEADOW, Mass.- Despite a valiant effort by Bay Path, the Wildcats were unable to comeback in the second half from a one goal deficit falling 2-1 to the Mountaineers of Southern Vermont today at Ryan Field in New England Collegiate Conference women's soccer action.  Sophomore midfielder Keelin Dougherty (Northfield , N.H.) scored the lone goal for the Wildcats. Dougherty now leads Bay Path with five goals on the season.

Southern Vermont struck first at 12:38 on the clock when junior forward Shawnee Webster (Hoosick, N.Y.) found the back of the net on a shot from 25 yards back. Webster would again take advantage of a penalty kick for the Mountaineers converting the shot 17th minute of play. This would become the eventual game winner for the green and gold.

Both teams played tough defense in the second half. Southern Vermont had nine shots to Bay Path's eight for the final 45 minutes of play.

Wildcats freshman keeper Marina Rhodes (Providence, R.I.) suffered the loss facing 18 shots, nine on goal, tallying seven saves. Southern Vermont sophomore goalie Catrina Cecchini (Montville, Conn.) picked up the win facing 12 shots, six on goal with five saves.

Bay Path is now 2-8 and 1-3 in the NECC, while Southern Vermont advances to 3-6 and 2-2 in conference play. The Wildcats will host Nichols in a make-up match on Wednesday, October 12th at 3:00 p.m., while Southern Vermont host Elms on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. in an NECC match.
