Wildcats Fall 2-0 to Mariners in Women's Soccer Action
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's soccer
team came away with a 2-0 victory over Bay Path College on Tuesday
afternoon in a New England Collegiate Conference showdown at Alumni
Field.
Mitchell (7-4-2 overall, 5-1-2 NECC) scored a pair of goals in the
23rd minute and had chances to add more throughout the contest. The
Mariners held a 39-7 edge in shots for the game and saw multiple
balls hit off the post and crossbar.
Senior Angie Smith (Meriden, Conn./Platt) put the
Mariners on the scoreboard with her sixth tally of the season.
Classmate Nikki Hoxie (Winsted, Conn./Gilbert
School) played a short corner kick to freshman Madeline
Crow (Rockville, Md./Quince Orchard) to start the play
off. Crow then returned a pass to Hoxie, who centered the ball into
the box where Smith headed it at the far post for the goal.
Mitchell's second goal came just 28 seconds later when sophomore
Katelynne Mackie (North Attleboro, Mass./North
Attleboro) took a failed clear and lofted a shot over the Bay Path
keeper from outside the 18-yard box. The goal was the first of
Mackie's career and gave the Mariners a comfortable 2-0
cushion.
Bay Path didn't put a shot on goal in the first half but kept at
it in the second stanza. Nicole
Crossman (Winsted, Conn./Gilbert School) finished with
three shots and tested the Mitchell keeper twice in the defeat.

Rhodes (Providence, R.I./Classical) made six stops in
goal for the Wildcats (3-12 overall, 2-6-0 NECC).

sixth clean sheet of the season. Five of her shutouts have come in
conference play.
