Buccaneers Take Wildcats 5-1

LONGMEADOW, Mass.- The Wildcats' freshman forward Jailinne Ruiz (Hadley, Mass.) netted Bay Path's lone goal in the first half. The Buccaneers of Massachusetts Maritime defeated Bay Path 5-1 in NCAA DIII regional women's soccer action today at Ryan Field.

The Wildcats played a tight game the first 45 minutes of play only going into the half down one goal. Mass. Maritime struck first at 10:46 on the clock when local freshman forward Madison Taylor (Longmeadow, Mass.) off a cross from junior forward Mackenzie Wilson (Plymouth, Mass.).

Ruiz would answer the call at 13:58 off a pass by junior forward Dallas Jackson (Springfield, Mass.) knotted the score 1-1.

The Buccaneers' sophomore forward Stephanie Hunt (Brookfield, Conn.) came off the bench to net the eventual game winner at 36:34 on the clock.

Mass. Maritime would come out of the half with fire in the feet out shooting Bay Path 12-to-4 in the final 45 minutes. Bay Path outshot Mass. Maritime 12-to-9 in the first half.

Hunt would add an insurance goal at 51:23 off a cross by junior midfielder Aoife Callinan (West Falmouth, Mass.). Callinan would score four minutes later with a pass from Wilson. Taylor would secure the win with their fifth and final goal in the 86th minute of play.

Senior goalkeeper Katie Levasque (Wilmot, N.H.) secured the win seven saves facing 16 shots, eight of which were on goal. Junior goalie Briana Kujawski (Webster, Mass.) suffered the loss despite managing 13 saves facing 21 shots, 18 of which were on goal.

Bay Path is now 4-6 on the season, while Mass .Maritime advances to 3-7 overall.
