Wildcats Fall 1-0 in 2016 Women’s Soccer Season Opener

LONGMEADOW, MASS.-  Senior goalkeeper Alma Rizvani (Prospect, Conn.) made her collegiate return after a season ending injury in 2015. Despite a close 1-0 loss to the Falcons of Fitchburg State, Rizvani finished with nine saves facing 17 shots for her ninety minutes of play. The Wildcats are led by first year head coach Jamey Mercer.

The Falcons' junior defender Siobhan O'Connell (Abington, Mass.) managed to score the lone goal in the eight minute. Fitchburg State's sophomore midfielder Maddie Medina (Pelham, N.H.) took the corner kick crossing it to freshman defender Gabriella Foster (Leominster, Mass.) for a shot. O'Connell connected after the ball was deflected by Rizvani. This would prove to be the only goal for the Falcons.

Fitchburg finished with 17 shots to Bay Path's five for the match. Senior midfielder Kristen Lynch (Belchertown, Mass.) led the way for the Wildcats with two shots on goal.

Freshman keeper Alexandra Foster (Leominster, Mass.) garnered her first collegiate shut-out.

Bay Path is now 0-1 on the season, while Fitchburg is 1-0. The Wildcats will be back in action on Sunday, September 4th hosting CCNY at a 2:00 p.m. start at Ryan Field.
