Bay Path Takes MCLA 8-1 in Women’s Tennis Action
NORTH ADAMS, Mass.- A trio of senior seniors' Sarah Costa (Tiverton, R.I.), Lianna Loveitt (Gorham, Maine) and Tara Mullane (Pomfret, Conn.) led Bay Path to a 8-1 victory over the Trailblazers of Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts today in NCAA DIII regional women's tennis action.
In the #1 singles match Costa defeated Carrie Richards (Ludlow, Mass.) 7-6, 6-0. Wildcat sophomore Symone Watson (Hamden, Conn.) easily took down Laura Laureano 6-1, 6-0 in #2 singles action. Fellow sophomore Teanna Montoyo (Edgartown, Mass.) won at the #4 singles slot 6-1, 6-1, while Loveitt defeated Jessica Guay 6-2, 6-1 in the five spot. Mullane won the #6 flight 6-1, 6-1 over Jessica Fratus.
Early during the match, Bay Path easily jumped ahead three points taking all three doubles match. Costa and Symone defeated Richards and Sara Murphy 8-3 in the #1 doubles spot. Freshman Stephanie Morin (Springfield, Mass.) teamed with Loveitt swept through Laureano and Hannah Marshman 8-1 in the #2 spot, while the tandem of Montoyo and Mullane overtook Fratus and Shelby Ferrier 8-2.
Bay Path is now 1-1 on the season, while MCLA opened up with the loss. The Wildcats are back in action hosting St. Joseph on Wednesday September 14th at 3:30 p.m. in a make-up match from an earlier rain date.
