Wildcats Take Mariners in First NECC Match 8-1

LONGMEADOW, Mass.- In the Wildcats first New England Collegiate Conference match of the 2011 season, Bay Path defeated the Mariners of Mitchell College 8-1 for the day. The Wildcats swept through the doubles action and took #2-#6 singles flights 6-0, 6-0.

Partners senior Sarah Costa (Tiverton, R.I.) and sophomore Symone Watson (Hamden, Conn.) easily finished first in the #1 doubles match defeating sophomore Mackenzie Flanagan (San Anselmo) and senior Amanda Resnick (Ridgewood, N.J.) 8-0. Finishing next was the #3 doubles spot of sophomore Teanna Montoyo (Edgartown, Mass.) and senior Tara Mullane (Pomfret, Conn.) defeated freshman Jennifer Schmidt (Clarksburg, Mass.) and freshman Marissa Haggett (Marlboro, Mass.) 8-1. Rounding out the doubles action in the #2 spot was freshman Stephanie Morin (Springfield, Mass.) and senior Lianna Loveitt (Gorham, Maine) who defeated junior Julie Embley (Lawrenceville, N.J.) and junior Jaimee Topkin (New London, Conn.) 8-3.

The lone loss for the Wildcats came at the #1 singles. Flanagan defeated Costa 6-4, 7-6 in the longest match of the day.

Bay Path will face Albertsu Magnus tomorrow in a non-conference match on the road at a 1:00 p.m. start.
