Wildcats Prevail Over Lynx in NECC Match

LONGMEADOW, Mass.- In the Wildcats second New England Collegiate Conference match of the 2011 season, Bay Path defeated the Lynx of Lesley University 8-1 for the day. The Wildcats took all three doubles action and won all the singles flights except the #1 spot in women's tennis action today.

First to win in #2 doubles action was freshman Stephanie Morin (Springfield, Mass.) and senior Lianna Loveitt (Gorham, Maine) who easily defeated tandem sophomores Christina Constantine (Amsterdam, N.Y.) and Emily Scolaro (Peabody, Mass.) 8-5.  Next to finish in the #3 doubles spot were sophomore Teanna Montoya (Edgartown, Mass.) and senior Tara Mullane (Pomfret, Conn.) who defeated junior Hannah Phalen (Seattle, Wash.) and her partner sophomore Jillian Clarke (Old Tappan, N.J.) 8-1.  Rounding out the doubles matches were the #1 flight of Wildcats' senior Sarah Costa (Tiverton, R.I.) and sophomore Symone Watson (Hamden, Conn.) winning 8-1 overtaking senior Michelle Side (Miller Place, N.Y.) and junior Nicole Smith (Rindge, N.H.).

The lone loss for the Wildcats came at the #1 singles. Side defeated Costa 7-5, 5-7, 5-10 in true tie-breaker fashion.

Bay Path will travel to Leicester, Mass tomorrow for a make-up game against NECC rival Becker College at 3:00 p.m. This is a battle of the last years' co-conference champions.
