Blue Jays Fly Past Wildcats on the Courts

LONGMEADOW, Mass.- The Wildcats of Bay Path University hosted the Blue Jays of the University of St. Joseph in regional women's tennis action, falling 9-0 this afternoon.  The tandem of seniors Brittany Walsh (North Smithfield, R.I.) and Taylor Wood (Castleton, N.Y.) despite a strong effort at the #1 spot fell 8-6 to freshman Lucy Roberge (Willington, Conn. ) and junior Rebecca Mauri (Meriden, Conn.).

The Blue Jays' #2 doubles team of freshmen Sakinah Abdulsalam (Bristol, Conn.) and Ashley Savino (Old Saybrook, Conn.) bested the combo of sophomore Katie Leibowitz (Tolland, Conn.) and senior Katrina Mannion (Lawrence, Mass.) by a tally of 8-0.

In the #3 doubles matchup, St. Joseph teammates sophomore Tara Smith (Palmer, Mass.) and freshman Leah Nguyen (West Hartford, Conn.) posted an 8-3 triumph over  seniors Kimberly Drahushuk (Hudson, N.Y.) and Edna Aboagye (Wappinger Falls, N.Y.)

St. Joseph swept all six singles matches, headlined by Mauri's 6-4, 7-6 (10-6) triumph over Walsh at the #1 spot, and Roberge's 6-4, 7-6 (11-9) victory over Wood at #2.

In the #3 match, Abdulsalam topped Rosario 6-2, 6-0, while Savino defeated Leibowitz 6-0, 6-1, in the #4 position.

Smith edged Drahushuk 6-0, 6-1 at #5, while Sundara bested Aboagye 6-1, 6-1 at the #6 spot to close out the scoring.

Next up for Bay Path (0-2) will be the Wildcats' NECC opener at Becker on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. St. Joseph (1-0) will visit MCLA in non-conference play Saturday at noon.
