Bay Path Sweeps Through Tri-Match Against Becker and Mass Maritime

Leicester, Mass. – The Becker women's volleyball team hosted a tri-match on Saturday against the visiting Wildcats of Bay Path College and the Buccaneers of the Massachusetts Maritime academy.

In the opener against Bay Path, the Hawks fell short, losing 3-0 (25-20, 20-14, 20-15). Senior Nadine Harkless (Westfield, MA) led the Wildcats with 12 kills and 20 digs, both match-highs. Sophomore Kate Bartels (Dalton, MA) had four kills, four service aces and a block. Junior Nicole Morse (Alton, NH) led Becker with eight kills and a block assist, while junior Joanna Slomiak (Brockton, MA) had 18 digs.

In the second match, Bay Path defeated Mass Maritime, 3-0 (25-4, 25-7, 25-6). Bartels was tremendous for the Wildcats, with six kills and 11 service aces, along with eight digs. Freshman Kacie Bayreuther (East Lyme, CT) had six kills and seven digs. For the Bucs, junior Alex Burgess-Chrost (Leominster, MA) had two kills and six digs.

In the third match, Becker squared off against Mass Maritime, with the Hawks picking up their first home win of the season in a 3-0 (25-11, 25-20, 25-11). Morse led her team to victory with seven kills. Slomiak had four kills, seven service aces and six digs. Sophomore Jacqueline Chila (Eddington, ME) had four kills, five service aces and six digs. Mass Maritime was led by Burgess-Chrost, who had two kills and two service aces.  

Bay Bath College goes home with a 7-6 (1-0 NECC) record, heading into next Saturday's match against Mills College at Mount Holyoke. Massachusetts Maritime is 0-14 on the season and heads to Bridgewater State this Tuesday evening.

The host Becker Hawks are now 3-10 (0-1 NECC) on the season. Bay Path advances to 7-6 overall and 1-0 in conference play. The Wildcats will be back in action on Saturday travelling to Mount Holyoke to play another tri-match against the host and Mills begining at 2:00 p.m.
