Bay Path Falls 3-1 in NECC Women’s Volleyball Action to Newbury

HOLYOKE, Mass.- The Wildcats fell 3-1 to New England Collegiate Conference rival the Nighthawks of Newbury tonight at the Bartley Center in NCAA DIII women's volleyball action. The Nighhawks took the first two games 25-22 and 25-12, while Bay Path came back to win the third game 25-21 only to fall in the fourth set 25-12. Senior outside hitter Nadine Harkless (Westfield, Mass.) and junior setter Ashley Provost (Ludlow, Mass.) were the only players to notch double doubles for the match.

Harkless finished the night with 11 kills and 11 digs, hitting .300 and leading all players with six service aces and two block solos. Provost also notched 11 digs while finishing with the game high 23 assists.

Junior right side hitter Sara Hanna (Center Moriches, N.Y.) topped all for the night with a .409 attack percentage. Hanna had 10 kills and six digs. Close behind her was freshman teammate Sydney Fish (Kalamazoo, Mich.) tying with Harkless for the game high 11 kills. Fish notched a .345 hitting percentage, with four aces and five digs. Also hitting in double figures was sophomore middle hitter Jessy Touron (Brockton, Mass.) with ten kills and .200 attack percentage. Junior libero Talia Martinez (Malibu, Calif.) led her team with 14 digs.

Four Wildcats notched double figures in digs with Bay Path finishing higher defensively with 54 digs to the Nighthawks 51 digs.

Freshman outside hitter Allie Esquivel (Irving, Tex.) topped the Wildcats with 12 digs. She also had six kills for the match.

Bay Path is now 8-8 on the season a 1-1 in conference play. Newbury improves to 9-12 and 1-0 in NECC play. The Wildcats will travel to Cambridge on Saturday to face fellow NECC opponent Lesley at a 2:00 p.m. start.
