#3 Bay Path Concludes Season with a 3-0 Loss to #2 Newbury in NECC Semifinal Action


BENNINGTON, Vt.- The Newbury College Nighthawks won 3-0 over Bay Path College in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) semi-finals Friday evening, at the Mountaineer Athletic Center on the campus of Southern Vermont. The second seeded Nighthawks will meet the overall number one seed Southern Vermont, Saturday at 2:00PM for the NECC Championship.
In all three sets, the Nighthawks won by scores of 25-20. In the first set Newbury used a strong attack game, as they hit .312 with 15 kills. For the match Newbury hit .211 while the Wildcats of Bay Path hit .077.

Freshman middle, Sydney Fish (Kalamazoo, MI) led Newbury with 12 kills. Classmate, Lauren Watson (Denver, CO) hit .571 in the match for the victors. Bay Path was paced bysenior Nadine Harkless (Westfield, MA) who registered 13 kills and a .303 hitting percentage.

For the Nighthawks, Regina Sibilia (Agawam, MA) had 30 assists, while Bay Path's junior Ashley Provost (Ludlow, MA) had 16 in the defeat. Freshman outside hitter Kacie Bayreuther (East Lyme, CT) led the Wildcat defense with 12 digs.

The Wildcats finish their season with a 14-11 record in 2011, the best season in program history. The Nighthawks improved to 15-17 and will play SVC tomorrow for the right to go to the NCAA tournament.
