Wildcats Split on Day Concluding their 2012 Campaign

NASHUA, N.H. – The Daniel Webster women's volleyball team grabbed much-needed momentum for the upcoming New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) championship tournament, scoring a pair of Saturday victories at Mario Vagge Gymnasium, topping Bay Path 3-1 in a NECC matchup and added a 3-0 sweep of Pine Manor.

Bay Path topped Pine Manor, 3-0 in the day's middle matchup but the Wildcats (12-11, 3-5 NECC) saw their season end as they were eliminated from the post-season race.

Barring a titanic upset by Lesley over Southern Vermont on Sunday, the Eagles (15-10, 5-3) will earn the fourth seed for the NECC tournament and host Lesley on Tuesday in a quarterfinal matchup beginning at 7:00 p.m., weather and travel conditions permitting. In the event of difficult conditions, the game would be moved to Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.

Eagles 3, Bay Path 1

The Eagles opened the day spotting the Wildcats (12-11, 3-5 NECC) the first set by 25-22 score, but answered to take the next three, 25-22, 25-15, 25-19.

Senior Chelsey Crawford (Westfield, Mass.) rang up a match high 17 kills adding 12 digs and a career-high three assists, while fellow seniors Jennifer Finneran(Barnstead, N.H.) added 13 kills and Samantha Hill (Hudson, N.H.) knocked down 12 kills and pulled in 12 digs.

Ally Hayden (Bedford, N.H.) finished with 39 assists, four kills and 13 digs, senior Brier Temple had five kills and 15 digs, Maggie Belli (Miami, Fla.) had 20 kills andSarah Durocher posted a match-best five service aces.


Stephanie Synott (Torrington, Conn.) had eight kills and 10 digs to lead Bay Path. Amber Cohens (Hampden, Conn.) picked up seven kills while Ashley Provost (Ludlow, Mass.) had 22 assists.

DWC hit .146 for the match against .124 for the Wildcats, but pounded the net to the tune of a 52-30 advantage in total kills, added a three-to-one advantage in aces (15-5) and nearly doubled up Bay Path in assists (45-27).

Bay Path 3, Pine Manor 0

In the middle match of the day, Bay Path trailed just three times in the first set and never trailed the rest of the way, hitting .317 as part of the 25-15, 25-10, 25-7 sweep.

Elizabeth Haylette (Terryville, Conn.) racked up 12 kills to lead the attack, while Arriadne Sykes (Hartford, Conn.) had nine and Katelynn Hannan (Troy, N.Y.) added six with eight digs. Synott chipped in with 10 digs and four kills while Provost had 16 assists.

Phalonge Pierre (Boston, Mass.) and Mann had five kills apiece for Pine Manor with Man added 11 digs.

Bay Path finished with a 35-11 differential in total kills, 28-9 in assists, 12-4 in aces and 42-37 in digs.

 

Eagles 3, Pine Manor 0

In the nightcap, DWC hit .343 and trailed only once throughout the 45-minute match, winning 25-15, 25-9, and 25-11.

Temple was the high woman for the Eagles with nine kills and added six digs, while Finneran and Crawford had eight kills each with Crawford adding four aces.

Durocher had the hot hand again at the line with a career-best eight aces, while Hill had four kills and eight digs. Hayden picked up 22 assists with three kills. Bree Cosgrove (Raymond, N.H.) chipped in with an assist and two digs.

Michelle Cole (Quincy, Mass.) had five kills and nine digs for the Gators, who finished their season 3-15 overall. Destiny Mann (Orlando, Fla.) added six assists, eight digs and two aces.

DWC outkilled PMC 33-11, and added overwhelming advantages in assists (31-9), aces (18-5), and digs (32-25).
