Wildcats Host Women’s Volleyball Tournament

AMCATS Come Out on Top Going 3-0 for the Day

Game One:  BPC 2 CNR 3 (25-20, 17-25, 25-23, 10-25, 11-15)
Game Two: AMC 3 PMC 0 (25-7, 25-13, 25-19)

HOLYOKE, Mass.- The Wildcats of Bay Path College hosted a four team women's volleyball ball tournament this afternoon at the Brantley Center with the AMCATS of Anna Maria College coming out on top winning  all three matches. The Blue Angels from the College of New Rochelle went 2-1 on the day while the Wildcats went 1-2. The Gators of Pine Manor lost all three matches. Despite a 1-2 day, Bay Path was the only team to take a game from the AMCATS falling 3-1 and went the distance with the Blue Angles falling 3-2 in a tight fought match taking down to the wire.

GAME ONE: The College of New Rochelle managed to outlast the host Wildcats winning 3-2 in the longest match of the day. The Wildcats took the first and the third games, while the Blue Angels proved victorious in the second, fourth and final sets. Game scores were 25-20, 17-25, 25-23, 10-25, 11-15.

Bay Path was led by sophomore middle hitter Elizabeth Haylette (Terryville, Conn.) with nine kills. Haylette hit .250 on the match while adding three blocks. Junior Libero Kacie Bayreuther (East Lyme, Conn.) had a match high and tourney high 34 digs. Freshman setter Aaliyah Gordon (Springfield, Mass.) tallied her collegiate high 26 assists. New Rochelle's junior outside hitter Meghan King (New York, N.Y.) topped all players with 18 kills, while adding six digs and three service aces.  Freshman setter Indigo Flowers (Castro Valley, Calif.) grabbed double digits with match high 28 assists. She also had four aces and six digs. Defensively, Libero Diana Desir (Spring Valley, N.Y.) also went into the double figures with 20 digs.

GAME TWO:  The AMCATS easily shut out the Gators in three games 25-7, 25-13 and 25-19. Anna Maria was led by senior outside hitter Alexandra Rodriguez (Lawrence, Mass.) with seven kills and five service aces. Fellow senior and middle hitter Kayla Cummings (Auburn, Maine) wasn't far behind with six kiss and four aces. Junior outside hitter Jacqueline Clinton (Walpole, Mass.) finished with six digs.

The Gators' junior outside hitter Destiny Mann (Orlando, Fla.) with six kills. Freshman outside hitter Susan Le (Lowell, Mass) chipped in four kills while topping her team with 12 digs. Freshman setter Alexis Bushika (Adams, Mass.) tallied nine assists.

GAME THREE: The AMCATS took the third match as well in four with the Wildcats winning the first set 25-23, 20-25, 20-25, 14-25.  Anna Maria was led by Cummings who hit a .300 attack percentage with 10 kills while sophomore outside hitter Alyssa Haberman (Boca Raton, Fla.) notched a sizzling .438 attack percentage with nine kills. Freshman Libero Michelle Connolly (Quincy, Mass.) had 19 digs.   

The Wildcats senior outside hitter Kate Bartels (Dalton, Mass.) swung her way to an stifling .412 hitting percentage with team high eight kills. Bartels also added two aces and two digs. Bayreuther once again led all payers with 34 digs, while Gordon again had 19 assists.

GAME FOUR:  New Rochelle nabbed their second win on the day taking Pine Manor in three 25-7, 25-15, 25-14. King again led the way offensively in kills, while Desir topped all players with digs.

Mann again led the Gators with seven digs while Le added five for the match. Two Gators combined for five kills.  Bushika had two service aces.

GAME FIVE:  Bay Path defeated the Pine Manor in three sets taking the final set unfortunately earlier due to an injury default due to a limited roster.  Game scores were 25-11, 26-24, 25-8.  Once again Bartels led the attack with six kills hitting a .308 for the match. Bartels added four digs while Bayreuther had eight digs.  Sophomore outside hitter Gladys Reed (Hamden, Conn.) and freshman right side hitter Jennifer Pham (Springfield, Mass.) both finished with 4 kills and a .222 attack percentage.

Pine Manor was led by Mann with five kills with Le not far behind at four kills. Le hit .500 on the match including leading the way defensively with six digs.  Bushika had ten assist.

GAME SIX: The AMCATS nabbed their second shut-out taking the Blue Angles in three games 27-25, 25-18, 25-22. Like the previous games King led all players in kills and aces, while teammate Flowers had match high assists.

The Blue Angles' junior outside hitter Shamella Bartholomew (Brooklyn, N.Y.) topped her team with 10 kills, while freshman outside hitter Amber Milan (Bronx, N.Y.) had seven kills.
